Valentines

Whether you’re in a relationship or not, Valentine’s Day can be a day of renewal and restoration—particularly if you show yourself a little self-care skin care.

It’s interesting how people feel about Valentine’s Day. Some people love it, some hate it.

According to surveys, about half of people love the holiday, but between 20-33 percent treat it as just another day. Around 15 percent don’t like it at all, feeling it’s “too commercial.”

Here’s the thing: Valentine’s isn’t going anywhere, so why not make the most of it? No matter your relationship status or your gender, you can use the day to give yourself a little extra self-care—and who couldn’t use that?

7 Ideas for Showing Yourself Some Self-Care Skincare

1: Make Yourself a Self-Care Package

You may have sent other people care packages in the past. How about making one for yourself?

It may seem like a silly or self-indulgent idea, but we urge you to try it. You might be amazed at how fun it is, and how much it lifts your mood.

As for what to put in it, think of small things that make you feel special. We recommend our Discover + Recover Kit which contains travel sizes of all four of our products—suitable for all types of skin.

Other ideas may include your favorite natural scent (essential oil based), your most tasty herbal tea, some dark chocolate, maybe that book you’ve been wanting to read, a pretty piece of jewelry, some bath salts, or anything that brings a smile to your face.

By the way, you can do this for a loved one as well. Nothing is quite as special as a personally made care package!

Self-Care Skin Care Tip 2: Give Yourself a Spa Day

Often our skincare routines end up being as robotic as brushing our teeth. Make a point to take some time on Valentine’s Day to make it truly restorative. Light a candle, put your favorite essential oil into your aromatherapy diffuser, turn on some relaxing music, then wash your face.

When you’re finished, apply luxuriously soothing Calming Moisture for face neck and scalp. (You can use it as a moisturizing/repairing mask too by slathering it over your skin and leaving it on overnight. Wake up to glowing clear and supple skin.)

Self-Care Skin Care Tip 3: Enjoy a Skin Brush Before Your Bath or Shower

Skin brushing is a recommended technique for exfoliating your skin all over your body. It also feels really good! You’ll emerge from your bath or shower feeling renewed all over.

It’s really simple. Get yourself a skin brush—make sure it provides gentle exfoliation but is not too harsh—then start at your midsection and brush your skin with smooth, circular motions down to your ankles. (Always avoid sensitive areas.) Then start again at the midsection and work your way up your torso and down your arms.

Once you’ve finished, jump into the bath/shower immediately, then when you get out, apply moisturizer to help your skin recover We recommend our Body Repair Lotion, which helps soothe dry and inflamed skin will also help reveal gorgeous, healthy looking skin.

4: Love Your Scalp

Scalp care is trending lately and for good reason. The healthier your scalp is, the healthier your hair is. And we all want shiny, healthy-looking hair!

Use this Valentine’s Day as an excuse to get started on scalp care. Particularly if your scalp feels dry and/or frequently itches, or if your hair feels dry and brittle and looks frizzy, it’s time to incorporate scalp care into your daily routine.

Here are some easy ways to get started:

  • Apply our Rescue + Relief Spray to any itchy areas for immediate, cooling relief.
  • Use our Calming Moisture as an overnight scalp mask. Rub it into the scalp, then put on a towel or hairnet if you like, and go to bed. Rinse in the morning. Also helps relieve psoriasis or eczema and keep your scalp healthy and nourished.
  • Look for leave-in hair products that help battle dryness.
  • If you’re suffering from an oily scalp or itchiness, try an exfoliating shampoo treatment. before applying Rescue + Relief Spray.

Self-Care Skin Care Tip 5: Wear Something that Feels Good Against Your Skin

Many people suffer from allergies to certain clothing fibers, or even to detergents and fabric softeners.

Valentine’s Day is a great day to go through your closet and think again about what you’re wearing. If you look at an item and it makes your skin crawl, it may be time to donate it.

Some common clothing fabrics that may cause skin irritation and allergic reactions include synthetic fabrics. Think polyester, rayon, spandex, and nylon. Check the tags on those clothes that don’t feel good and see if they may contain these fabrics.

Look for natural fibers instead. These include cotton, flax, hemp, silk, wool, alpaca, angora, cashmere, mohair, and ramie.

Then double-check your laundry detergent, softeners, and dryer sheets. If these have fragrances in them they may be responsible for skin irritation. Look for cleaner options.

6: Listen to or Watch Something Inspiring

One of the great things about technology is that you have ready access to all sorts of motivating, inspiring books, tutorials, podcasts, and videos right at your fingertips. Boost your self-care by seeking out information that will help you feel better about yourself.

Maybe you’d like some fashion advice for your age. Sometimes we can find ourselves confused about what looks best on us for our stage of life. Take some time for yourself to find some good advice, then give it a go. Or maybe you’d love some makeup tips.

These are the things you may not usually have time for. On Valentine’s Day, indulge away!

Self-Care Skin Care Tip 7: Go to Bed Early

We’ve talked before about how a poor night’s sleep can make your skin look older. It disrupts the skin’s ability to repair itself, leaving the outer barrier vulnerable and accelerating aging.

Studies have shown that people who are typically “poor sleepers” tend to have more fine lines, uneven pigmentation, slacking of the skin, and reduced elasticity.

When you go to sleep at night, your skin goes to work regenerating cells, conducting repairs, taming inflammation, and soaking up any helpful serums you applied before bed. Give your skin a chance to do all that by getting a few more hours of zzz’s this Valentine’s Day.

How will you show yourself some self-care skincare this Valentine’s Day?

3 Lip-Loving Valentine’s Day Makeup Looks

by

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, a special time of year when we celebrate the love in our lives and put our passion on display with various shades of red and pink. In honor of love’s big day, I’m sharing my top picks for easy Valentine lip looks you’re sure to love.

Lip Look #1

I’m a firm believer that the most important love is self-love, so for my first pick, I’m giving myself roses – Candied Rose HydroPure Hyaluronic Acid Lip Gloss and Warm Rose Lip Pencil.

HydroPure™ Hyaluronic Acid Lip Gloss

This duo’s compatibility is off the charts with lip-loving ingredients like Jojoba Seed Oil, Mango Seed Oil and Shea Butter. HydroPure Lip Gloss also gives an extra boost of hydration with Hyaluronic Acid, so my lips feel soft and ultra-kissable. I line and fill with the pencil for definition and a flood of color before topping with the tinted gloss for a healthy dose of shine. The complementary shades deliver a feminine, swoon-worthy pink lip perfect for day or (date) night.

Lip Look #2

The foundation of every great love story is great chemistry – enter pick two, Forever Pink Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain, a long-lasting stain that adjusts to your body chemistry for a truly unique hue.

This multipurpose stain really gets me, delivering the most beautiful pink tint to flatter my skin’s natural undertone. It’s a smooth operator, formulated with skin-softening Avocado Butter, Wild Rose Wax and Olive Butter, so it glides on like my favorite lip balm, only better. I love that I can also swipe it on my cheeks for a flirty flush. It’s easy, totally wearable and romantic. Remember, you don’t need a Valentine to be just-kissed.

Lip Look #3

My third and final pick really gets my heart racing! If you’re looking for commitment, look no further than Obsession Beyond Matte Lip Stain, an ultra-long-lasting stain that will never break your heart.

valentine's day lip looks

This pigment-packed stain is true to its word, delivering powerful payoff and a beyond matte finish – no feathering, no fading. One swipe is all I need to get the bold, full-coverage look I love. It’s formulated with nourishing plant oils, so my lips look matte without feeling dry, and the touch of Tahitian Vanilla makes this beauty extra sweet. I also have it on good authority that it will easily last through a full one-pound box of chocolates.

Whether you’re getting gussied up for Galentine’s dinner or retreating to the couch for your favorite rom-com, there’s a lip look for every occasion. I hope you love these as much as I do.

XOXO

Ashley

For me, Valentine’s Day means a few key things: an excess of pink and heart-shaped things, excellent candy selection (I’ll take 10 Reese’s hearts, thanks), and seasonally appropriate makeup looks! I love to go crazy with pink eyeshadows and eyeliners, but today I wanted to focus on a *classique* look with a retro twist: bold lip, clean eye, glowy complexion. This look is great for someone who doesn’t wear a lot of makeup but wants a little something special for a Valentine’s or Galentine’s date—and I’m going to show you how to do the easiest cat-eye liner ever! I started out with my current favorite foundation, Ere Perez Oat Milk Foundation (I’m wearing the Honey shade here). Before I switched to clean cosmetics, NARS Sheer Glow was my holy grail foundation—this one is such a good swap, I can hardly believe it! I love that the Ere Perez is a little more buildable, which is a great thing if you’re on a budget because you can use the same foundation for lighter and fuller coverage days.

I always use a Beauty Blender to apply my foundation and concealer, and there are definitely a few tricks to using one. First, make sure your blender has been prepped by running it under water until it’s doubled in size, then squeeze out all the water you can! A damp blender will “bounce” your foundation seamlessly across your skin. One that’s too dry will absorb all your product and leave harsh lines, and one that’s too wet will dilute your foundation. Second, always clean your blender after use—all you need is some gentle soap.

I’m using W3LL People Bio Correct concealer here to brighten my under eye area and prime my eyelids (prepping for shadow later). My biggest tip for under eye concealer is to blend out and down into the upper cheekbone area using the smaller end of your blender for a seamless, airbrushed look—you don’t need a lot of product!

Since the focuses of this look are lashes, eyeliner, and lips, I went easy on the eyeshadow and swept some HAN Golden Glow eyeshadow onto my lower lids and blended it up really softly past my crease.

The moment you’ve been waiting for, my FOOLPROOF cat-eye liquid liner application (here’s the liquid liner I use and love). Here are the steps, with the photos above as a little visual guide:

  1. Make a small dot where you want your cat eye to end on the sides of your eyes—this will help your wings to be an even length and the same angle.
  2. Draw a fine line down to connect the little dot you made with your lash line.
  3. Starting a little ways down on the line you just drew (leave some of the line exposed so your wing has a sharp point), draw a line diagonally across toward the inner corner of your eye.
  4. Shape up your cat eye by smoothing any hard angles where your line connects.

Tips: Steady your arm on a stable surface, and taper your liner so that it’s thickest toward the wing side and thinner toward your inner corner. This will give you a really clean look and will help that cat-eye shape emerge even more.

Next, I applied some bronzer (using my favorite HAN bronzer in Malibu that is very budget-friendly) to my cheekbones, forehead, either side of the bridge of my nose, and my lower jawline. Bronzer is definitely not just for the summer; it’s a great way to add some dimension to your face and gives a healthy glow! I’m a big fan of using it all year round.

For the red lips, I first primed them using BITE Beauty’s Line and Define Primer—it’s so easy to use and always helps pigmented glosses and lipsticks alike stay put. Using a red lip gloss, I drew an X on my cupid’s bow to start to make sure the application was even.

My faaavorite part of the look—LASHES! If you’re wondering how to put on lashes, I made a video tutorial for IGTV that you can see here. It’s very step-by-step and I give you all my best tips for a beautiful, long-lasting lash application. I used Koko Lashes’ Queen B style for this look.

After lashes, I added some Pink House Glow Stick in Champagne to my upper cheekbones, bridge of my nose, temples and cupid’s bow, and some of my favorite blush from HAN.

The finished look is rosy and fresh and isn’t too much for a day at work, yet it’s perfect for a night on the town—you can wear it anywhere! If you’re trying a new makeup skill for something really special or an important event, I always recommend practicing once or twice to build some confidence, see if you need to make any adjustments, and so you know how much time it will take to execute. 🙂

Let me know in the comments if there are any makeup skills or looks you want to learn! xo, Keely

A Classic Valentine’s Day Makeup Look

by
Valentine’s Day is one of our favorite holidays. You may think it’s a commercial holiday, and we agree. However, if you take away the expensive flowers, candy, and various other gifts, you’re left with something truly beautiful, a celebration of the ones you love. So, whether you’re staying in, going out or something in between, try this festive Valentine’s Day makeup look to get you in the holiday spirit.

A Naturally Beautiful Valentine’s Day Makeup Look

When creating a Valentine’s Day makeup look, we love the idea of a simple bronze, smokey eye paired with a bold red lip. It’s a fun spin on your traditional dark, smokey eye and red lip pairing. Here’s how to get the look.

Valentine's Day Makeup LookFirst, apply Glow Time Full Coverage BB Cream using the Blending Brush for a flawless finish.

Then, layer PurePressed Base on top using the Handi Brush. This will help keep your foundation in place all day and night.

Using your White Fan Brush, dust Mystique PurePressed Blush (or your favorite blush shade) on the apples of your cheeks, and use Moonglow Bronzer as a highlighter on your cheekbones.

Recreate this eye shadow look using three products, Brown Silk Eye Shere Liquid Eye Shadow, the Naturally Matte Eye Shadow Kit, and 24-Karat Gold Dust.

First, apply the Brown Silk Eye Shere to your entire eyelid as a primer. Then, use the Eye Shader Brush to apply the Eggplant shade from the Naturally Matte Eye Shadow Kit on top, blending up toward your brow bone.

Use the Crease Brush to apply the Fudge shade to the outer corner of your eye. Then, add a hint of 24-Karat Gold Dust in the middle of your lid.

Line your top and bottom lid with Basic Black Eye Pencil to complete your eye makeup.

Create a festive Valentine’s Day lip with Gwen PureMoist Lipstick. You can also tone down your lip with a nude shade like Craving Lip Fixation.

Do you have plans this Valentine’s Day? Whether you’re planning a romantic evening with someone special or brunch with your besties, getting dressed up makes the day feel even more special. And if you’re anything like us, trying a new hairstyle is half the fun of getting ready! If you need a little inspiration, keep reading for our favorite Valentine’s Day hairstyles.

3 Cute Hairstyles for Valentine’s Day

Romantic Chignon

Brunette woman smiles shyly down, her hair is in a romantic chignon bun hairstyle for valentines day
This Valentine’s Day hairstyle only looks complicated, but it’s actually quite simple to style at home. The chignon is basically a fancy bun. Except, instead of twisting the hair, you create a loose knot. This gives the hair more volume. That’s why we love this date hairstyle for fine or thin hair!

Start by applying a small amount of Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Elixir throughout your hair and comb to evenly distribute. This body-boosting treatment will help the knot of your chignon look more thick and full.

Next, pull your hair into a low ponytail and secure with a hair elastic. Grab your ponytail and twist it into a loop so that the ends are pointing upwards. Make sure to leave out an inch or two at the ends. Using bobby pins, secure the bottom of the loop at the nape of your neck. Then wrap the loose ends around the hair elastic and pin to secure.

Pull a few face-framing pieces from your chignon, then add waves to the pieces with a large-barreled curling iron or wand. Finish the look with a mist of hairspray, and you’re ready for Valentine’s Day!

Bouncy Waves

Brunette woman smiles lightly, her hair is in bouncy waves for valentines day.

Soft waves are a classic Valentine’s Day hairstyle, but we say turn up the volume and try these bouncy waves instead! For this look, you’ll need a hot roller set.

Start by washing your hair with Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Shampoo and Conditioner, which lightly cleanse and nourish your hair to leave it looking naturally thicker and fuller.

Next, evenly distribute a small amount of Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Elixir throughout your hair to add body to your final look. Blow dry hair or, if you have time, let your hair air dry.

Once your hair is completely dry, brush your hair and divide it into at least four sections. If you have thicker hair, you’ll want to create more sections. To create a curl, align a hot roller with the end of one hair section. Then roll up towards your scalp and secure with a pin. Repeat with all the sections of your hair.

Hint: for this look we suggest rolling the face-framing sections away from your face, then alternating the direction for every other roller.

Wait until the rollers are completely cool before removing them. In the meantime, you can use this time to do your makeup or get dressed. When cool, remove the curlers and gently shake out the curls with your fingers. Do not brush the curls! Then mist with hairspray to finish the look.

Sleek & Shiny

Woman with her hair sleek and shiny for Valentines Day looks confidently into the camera

If you have wavy or curly hair, straightening your hair can be a fun way to change up your look for a special occasion like Valentine’s Day.

As with the Bouncy Waves style, the first step for this cute date hairstyle is to wash and condition your hair with Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Shampoo and Conditioner. Post-shower, remove any excess moisture from your hair with a microfiber or bamboo fiber towel. Then spritz hair with a heat protectant spray.

Next, section your hair with claw clips. Blow dry each section using a round brush to pull your hair taut as you dry. Aim the nozzle of the blow dryer downwards along the hair shaft to minimize frizz.

Once your hair is completely dry, straighten small sections of the hair with a flat iron. Finish with a mist of light-hold hairspray, and you’re done!

Valentine’s Day is almost here! Whether you’ve got some romantic plans with a partner or just grabbing some drinks with the girls, I thought I’d share with you some of my favorite non-toxic makeup items to get a shimmery look that’s ready for wherever the night takes you! Hopefully it takes you to at least one place with some sweet treats or candy though …OK! Let’s talk foundation first! So I LOVE using Juice beauty perfecting concealer (in Sand) to brighten up dark circles under my eyes. It covers really well and doesn’t dry out my skin. Then I buff Rejuva powder foundation (in Natural Beige) over my face as a base and highlight with their powder bronzer (in Caribbean) under my cheekbones, on my chin and nose bridge, and the top of my forehead. Now the eyes! I used Lily Lolo Brow Duo Pencil (in the light shade) to fill in my brows and added some simple lashes with some lash glue (this one from my fave glue brand has a low score on EWG). That brow pencil goes on so easily and those lashes are perfect in that they add volume without feeling over-the-top crazy (read more about lashes 101 here!).

Next, I did a generous sweep of shimmery gold and bronze mineral eye shadows (Gold Digger and Brown Sugar in the eyelid crease) which are so pretty when the light hits them. After adding a cat eye of liquid liner (I like this liner a lot, but like a lot of more natural liquid liners, and you do need two coats for full coverage), I finished off my lashes with one of my favorite natural mascaras (it smells so good too!).The Gold Digger shade is the top one (a bit of a lighter gold) and the bottom is the Brown Sugar (has more of a bronze tone to it). To add a bit of a dewy look to my cheeks, I used this Glow Stick in Champagne by Pink House. I just run the stick down my cheekbones and then use my fingers to blend the shimmery goodness into my skin a bit, and I get a beautiful highlight that really catches the light. And what’s a Valentine’s Day makeup look without a signature red lip? This Ring Pop lipstick (similar here) is that perfect shade of red with coconut oil, shea butter and vitamin E to keep your lips soft and hydrated throughout the night. And how cute is that red top (similar here) with the tiered bell sleeves?? The perfect V-Day choice to pair with that lip bag too … anyways, you can use all these makeup items all year round, but I love how they all come together for a special and shimmery Valentine’s look. Hope you have an extra special V-Day! xo. Laura

Valentine’s Day celebrations might look a little different this year; your OOTD now includes your facemask, and your cute handbag has to make room for a bottle of sanitizer and disinfectant wipes, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that you can still step out looking and feeling absolutely fabulous!

Whether your Valentine’s Day date is made up of a picnic in the park, a socially-distanced hangout in a parking lot, a drive-in movie or even a virtual Zoom date, we’ve got you covered with three hairstyles that will work for any situation. They’re quick, simple, and are a great way to help you elevate your Valentines experience this year.

Here are three easy hairstyles that you can wear this Valentine’s day:

Date Night Hairstyles

1. Baby face framing braids

2020 gave us a ton of trendy hairstyles to play around with and baby braids were definitely one of our favorites. This hairstyle works with all hair types and can be accessorized to create more drama in your look.

Date Night Hairstyles

Step 1

Section your hair down the middle to create a center part.

Step 2

Section 1” pieces of hair on both sides at the front of your center part.

Step 3

Begin braiding each side and secure with a thin elastic band.

Date Night Hairstyles

And voila! You’ve got yourself a simple, easy to wear Valentine’s Day hairstyle that you can pair with a dressy top and well-fitted jeans as well as a simple dress.

Luxy Hair Style Tip:

Baby braids are a great way to frame your face without any heat-styling, and makes any outfit you wear look more fresh and preppy. If that is the vibe for you this V-Day, be sure to make baby braids your go-to look!

2. Bouncy Ponytail

Nothing says cute quite like a bouncy ponytail. If you’re planning to keep your look modern and playful, this hairstyle might be the one for you. A voluminous ponytail that brings full attention to your face. If you’re planning on wearing bold earrings or a statement necklace, you can rest assured that your hairstyle will only help enhance your look for the night. The secret? A ponytail extension to add mega volume.

Date Night Hairstyles

Step 1:

Grab all your hair together and gather it together at the height you want to wear your ponytail at.

Step 2:

Comb out any bumps or flyaways to ensure a sleek look.

Step 3:

Secure the ponytail with a thick elastic band, one like the Gravity Defying Hair Tie to make sure you get that extra pony pop.

Date Night Hairstyles

Step 4:

To catch that extra volume, put on a ponytail extension by setting the claw back in place and wrapping the velcro around the base of the ponytail securely.

Step 5:

Once secured, take 2” sections of your hair and loosely curl the ends of each one to create more dimension in your ponytail.

Date Night Hairstyles

Luxy Hair Style Tip:

You can also pull out a few additional baby hairs and face-framing pieces and curl them if you want a more laid-back look.

All you need to create this look is a good curler, some hairspray to set it in place and a few of our favorite accessories to give this classic hairstyle a trendy appeal.

Step 2:

Step 3:

Starting at the front, take 11/2” to 2” sections of your hair, and begin curling away from your face.

Step 4:

Instead of the root, begin curling at the midsection of your hair, wrapping it around the curler all the way to the tip.

Step 5:

Add your favorite pearl hair clips or gold hair clips, and stack them on one side to create a sleek appearance.

You can mix and match and pick your favorite accessories for the night—Istiana is wearing a combination of the Pretty In Pearl Hair Clip Set and Tortoise Shell hair clips for her final date night look.
