Can you tell us a little about the process?

The Keratin treatment is often known as Brazilian Blow Dry or Smoothing Treatment. At Beauty and Melody, we use the Moroccan Keratin Smoothing System by Inoar. This revolutionary treatment eliminates up to 95% of frizz and curls. This product restores hydration and instantly adds amazing shine and silkiness to the hair. Its formula is enriched with White Clay and Cocoa Oil that provide rich conditioning and frizz reduction; promoting an elegant transformation while restoring its natural beauty for a sleek, smooth, and radiant finish.

What are the advantages of having a smoothing treatment?

The main benefits to this kind of treatment are an instant smoothing, softening and de-frizzing effect. Hair is typically shiny and more manageable and will be
quicker and easier to style and blow dry.

KeraStraight Smoothing Treatment

If you are a first timer to a smoothing treatment, which would you recommend?

There are many different kinds of treatment on the market. Some very mild which will last only 10 washes, such ad the Discipline Smoothing Treatment by Kerastase. Some will reduce curl, some will simply reduce frizz. Speak to your hairdresser to find the correct treatment for you. We have 4 different treatments from Kerastase, Nanokeratin, Aveda, and Inoar available at Beauty and Melody.

How long does it last, and what length of time would you recommend before having the next session?

The treatment will typically last 1 – 6 months. This depends on the treatment type selected, how often you wash your hair and also the type of shampoo and styling products you are using. A good sulfate free shampoo is best. Specific shampoos and conditioners are supplied by each of the brands that promise to maintain the effects of your treatment longer than using a typical supermarket shampoo.

What are your tips for making the treatment last longer?

Use the prescribed shampoo and conditioner and wash your hair 2 – 3 times a week rather than every day.

Top tip – use a specialist shampoo which is sulfate free to maintain the effects of the treatment, such as Nano Keratin and Inoar Brazilian Blow Dry products.

How to Tame Frizzy Hair

by

Frizz is a very common hair issue. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not very annoying! If you’re struggling with frizz and flyaways this winter, keep reading for our guide on how to tame frizzy hair.

Why is My Hair Frizzy?

First things first: let’s uncover the cause of frizzy hair. The outer layer of the hair shaft, called the cuticle, is made up of overlapping scales of keratin. When hair is dry or damaged, these scales become ruffled and raised. Moisture from the outside air can then penetrate the hair shaft, causing it to swell. The result? Frizzy hair.

Think of it like this: dry and damaged hair + moisture in the air = frizz.

For this reason, wavy and curly hair is more prone to frizziness than fine, straight hair because those hair types are naturally drier.

How to Tame Frizzy Hair

1. Choose a Shampoo with Glycerin

Use a shampoo formulated with glycerin, which has an anti-frizz effect on hair. Glycerin penetrates the hair shaft to hydrate hair, which prevents frizz-inducing breakage. Glycerin is also a humectant, meaning that it creates a coating on hair that locks in moisture. This helps to prevent outside moisture from getting into the hair shaft and creating frizz.

Look for a shampoo with glycerin towards the top of the ingredients list, like Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Shampoo.

2. Always Use Conditioner

A conditioner is essential for controlling frizz because it hydrates hair and smooths the cuticle, preventing humidity from penetrating the hair shaft. Always use conditioner after shampooing hair to replace lost moisture from cleansing.

If you have extra dry hair, you can wash hair using conditioner only several times per week, also called co-washing. Conditioner’s oils and mild surfactants can actually cleanse hair without the use of shampoo. Just make sure to choose a lightweight conditioner, like Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Conditioner, which is formulated with hydrolyzed keratin, panthenol plus it has essential oils such as lavandula as well as pea sprout extract. So it moisturizes hair without weighing it down.

3. Skip the Towel Dry

Cotton towels tend to rough up the hair cuticle. And all that unnecessary friction leads to frizz-inducing damage. A cotton t-shirt absorbs excess water without causing as much friction to your strands for smoother, sleeker hair.

4. Sleep on Silk

Cotton pillowcase fibers are rough on hair, causing friction can dry out hair and leave it frizzier. Instead, switch to a satin or silk pillowcase for hair. The smooth texture of these fibers means that you wake up in the morning with smoother, more hydrated hair. If you don’t want to give up your cotton pillowcases, wrap your hair in a silk scarf before hitting the hay for the same sleek effect.

5. Treat Flyaways with a Spoolie

To eliminate frizz after you’ve styled your hair, spritz an eyelash spoolie brush with hairspray and gently comb flyaways into place. This small brush will help you target individual flyaways more exactly. You can even keep a spoolie and small hairspray bottle in your purse for a frizzy hair treatment on-the-go.

6. Think Long-Term for Lasting Frizz Control

Frizziness is a symptom of dry, damaged and brittle hair. So really, the only long-term, frizzy-hair treatment is to improve the health of your hair over time. Making these small changes will help you to have stronger, smoother hair in the future:

  • Wash your hair 2-3 times per week and always follow shampoo with conditioner.
  • Use a deep conditioning treatment every week.
  • Gently comb wet hair with a wide-tooth comb.
  • Use a boar-bristle brush on dry hair to distribute natural oils from the scalp.
  • Minimize how much you comb and brush hair, and always use a gentle hand.
  • Get regular hair trims.
  • Avoid using heat tools and embrace heat-free ways of styling hair.
  • Take Viviscal hair growth supplements twice a day. Viviscal is formulated with hair-nourishing ingredients like biotin, iron and zinc that feed follicles for healthier hair growth in 3-6 months.*
