Make Your Own Nontoxic Dry Shampoo!

One of my favorite things lately has been replacing beauty products in my bathroom with DIYs that I make myself! I love knowing all of the ingredients that go into the products I use regularly, and I LOVE knowing that these ingredients are nontoxic and super beneficial!

Anyone else a dry shampoo girl?? Having cotton candy colored hair requires some upkeep, and one thing that I can’t do often is shampoo! Otherwise I’ll experience fade-out a lot sooner. Also, let’s just be real, if my hair was in its natural glory, I probably wouldn’t shampoo more often anyway. 😉 I do have thicker, curlier hair, so washing my hair weekly tends to work out nicely, but dry shampoo is definitely a staple to give me that gussied up va-voom that I need!

BONUS: Not only did I put together a wonderful dry shampoo that works beautifully, but I’m also going to share how to adapt it for your hair color! You’re welcome! *sings the song from Moana*

–organic arrowroot powder
–bentonite clay
–organic cocoa powder
–lavender, peppermint and rosemary essential oil

Step One: For light colored hair—in a small bowl combine 5 tsp of arrowroot powder, 2 tsp of bentonite clay and a pinch of cocoa powder. For darker hair—combine 3 tsp of arrowroot powder, 3 tsp of cocoa and 2 tsp of bentonite clay. (You can continue to add cocoa powder as needed to match the tone of your hair!)

Step Two: Add your custom dry shampoo mix to a blender and then add 3 drops of lavender, 8 drops of peppermint and 2 drops of rosemary. Blend! You can also just use a spoon to blend your mix if you want—it just takes a little bit longer.

Step Three: Pour your dry shampoo into a small container. I got these tin containers from Amazon and this sassy “Yas Queen” label here.

To Apply: Use a fluffy makeup brush to grab a little bit of product and add to the roots of your hair. Add a little at a time and blend in with your brush. Use your fingers to blend in the rest as needed. Layer your dry shampoo if your hair is a little extra greasy!

Awesome benefits! Arrowroot powder is mattifying and adds volume! Bentonite clay will actually help draw out toxins! Lavender, peppermint and rosemary essential oils help stimulate hair growth and hair health too. Such great ingredients with amazing goodness for your hair!

Enjoy your new fancy hair, girl!

Strolling down the aisle of your local supermarket or drugstore, you might be faced with a tower of shampoos and conditioners. There are various products on the market that claim to be a shampoo that promotes hair growth. From this selection of advanced hair growth shampoo bottles, you will see many claims to the miracle cure for hair growth.

Truths and myths about effective hair growth shampoo ingredients

Some of these ingredients in hair growth shampoo have roots in clinical research. However, these claims are not always what they seem. To help you make sense of it all, this article aims to clarify some of the truths and myths about effective hair growth shampoo ingredients.

Chemical vs. Natural Shampoo for Hair Growth

The shampoos of the past were renowned for being aggressive and often harmful to hair if overused. The reality is that things have come a long way since then. Modern products, like Viviscal Gentle Shampoo, have done away with the aggressive chemicals of the past, and replaced them with ingredients from predominantly natural sources. A gentle shampoo is good for daily use, so this is definitely a big thumbs up for the natural option.

Biotin in Shampoo for Hair Growth

Some products promote the topical application of biotin in shampoo. It is true that there is a connection between the consumption of biotin and promoting hair growth from within. Another good bet is to ensure that your diet is rich in this and other important vitamins for healthy hair growth.

Caffeine in Shampoo for Hair Growth

There are some recent scientific studies that indicate some connection between the application of caffeine for hair loss. However, at this point, there is a lot of conflicting information out there.  Until research is a little more galvanized, I for one will be keeping my caffeine in my morning cup of coffee!

Niacin in Shampoo for Hair Growth

The compound Niacin (Vitamin B3) is one of many essential nutrients that is required to keep your body happy and healthy. While there are patchy claims about its inclusion in shampoos, it is without doubt an essential part of our nutritional health. Niacin can easily be supplemented into your diet, along with various other important ingredients, by taking Viviscal hair growth vitamins.

I’m sure you can see a trend emerging here! The real link between these substances and hair growth is the link between meeting your body’s nutritional requirements adequately. In order to create a great environment for the promotion of existing hair growth, it is important to supply a range of nutrients. These are available in varying quantities in different food groups, but for those seeking a simpler solution, there is the Viviscal comprehensive approach to hair care.

By ensuring that your body has the nutrients it needs, and providing you with a gentler shampoo and moisturizing conditioner, Viviscal provides a simpler solution towards thicker and fuller hair.

Tips for Using Dry Shampoo

Viviscal hair growth supplements are scientifically proven to reduce hair shedding and increase the number of hairs in 3 months+. But what if you want thicker-looking hair now? Try these products — from dry shampoo to thickening serum — to amp up hair volume and transform fine or thin hair instantly.

4 Hair Products to Boost Fine, Thin Hair

1. Dry Shampoo

Fine and thin hair is prone to greasiness that makes hair look limp and flat. Eliminate greasiness with dry shampoo, which eliminates extra oil to give fine hair some extra oomph.

How to use dry shampoo:

  1. Separate hair into sections, hold the bottle 12” inches away, and spray into roots
  2. Use your fingertips to massage dry shampoo into your roots
  3. Let dry shampoo sit for one minute. This will allow it to work its magic by absorbing excess oil.
  4. Brush or comb hair and then style as usual.

If you accidentally apply too much dry shampoo, don’t panic! You can use a blow-dryer to help remove a little of the excess product. Then, brush through hair.

Dry Shampoo Tips:

  • Use a dry shampoo in a shade that matches your hair color after styling to add extra volume to your look. Try Batiste® dry shampoo in Divine Dark, Beautiful Brunette, or Brilliant Blonde, depending on your hair color.
  • Apply dry shampoo directly to your roots for fresh-looking hair.
  • Shake the bottle well before and between spritzes to prevent white residue.

2. Densifying Conditioner

Don’t be afraid to use conditioner! All hair types (including fine or thin hair) can benefit from moisturizing hair with a high-quality conditioner.

The trick is to choose a conditioner that won’t weigh down finer strands, like Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Conditioner. This unique lightweight formula provides weightless moisture that leaves hair looking fuller and shinier. With an impressive ingredient list that includes Biotin, Keratin and Zinc, Gorgeous Growth Densifying Conditioner makes hair look thicker.

You can also use conditioner to exfoliate your scalp, removing scalp build-up from styling products like dry shampoo. Start by mixing equal parts conditioner with brown sugar. Shampoo hair normally, then apply the exfoliating mixture to your scalp. Gently massage into your scalp using your fingertips. Let sit the mixture sit for 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with cold water. Repeat monthly for best results.

3. Body-Boosting Styling Product

When it comes to adding body to fine hair, Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Elixir can make all the difference. Densifying Elixir promotes thicker-looking hair with Ana:Tel™, a proprietary complex containing clinically tested ingredients derived from natural sources, such as pea sprouts.

This leave-in treatment boosts body, so hair looks thicker, fuller, and healthier. And it couldn’t be easier to use. Just apply two to three pumps to damp hair, then comb to distribute evenly. Style hair as usual.

4. Hair Fibers

What if you not only want to add thickness to fine, thin hair, but also camouflage a wider part or conceal scalp show-through? Try Toppik™ Hair Building Fibers! This Hollywood hair secret is made from salon-quality keratin, the same protein found in hair. Toppik Hair Fibers have an innate static charge that allows them to cling to even tiny existing hairs, making your hair look instantly thicker and fuller.

How to use hair fibers:

  1. Start with dry, styled hair.
  2. Shake Toppik Hair Fibers into hair, or use the Spray Applicator attachment for a more controlled application.
  3. Then, finish with Toppik FiberHold Spray to add shine and lock the fibers into place for longer-lasting results

Hint: you can also use Toppik Fibers as a root touch-up to cover root regrowth between hair colorings!

If you want thicker, fuller-looking hair, it’s important to select a shampoo formulated to nourish and volumize fine or thinning hair. But with so many hair thickening shampoos on the market, how do you know what to look for? Keep reading for our complete guide to hair thickening shampoos that make your hair look volumized and healthy.

So… How Does Hair Thickening Shampoo Work?

An effective shampoo for thinning hair works in two ways:

  1. Gently washes away heavy buildup from products, sebum, and dirt for bouncy, voluminous hair
  2. Encourages the best environment for growth by keeping the hair and scalp conditioned, healthy, and free of clogged pores

Many people with thin hair want that volumizing lift. But some feel that too many shampoos are overbearingly thick and creamy. Thick shampoos can leave your hair feeling flat and limp after washing. A lightweight styling shampoo for thinning hair, such as Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Shampoo, won’t weigh hair down, leaving thin hair looking thicker and fuller.

So how do hair thickening shampoos help encourage hair growth? Actually, they don’t! To understand what hair thickening shampoo can do, first you should understand the science behind the hair growth cycle. Each of your hairs is rooted in a hair follicle, a tubular structure within your skin. Your skin has a finite number of hair follicles, and no regular shampoo can make you grow new ones.

However, a good shampoo can create an optimal environment for healthy hair growth by cleaning your scalp of dirt and debris that can cause clogged pores. And a good thickening shampoo has a lightweight consistency but is fortified with nutrients that will leave strands looking thicker and fuller.

Hint: If you’re looking for actual hair growth, your best bets are hair loss medications that stimulate follicles to regrow new hair or hair growth supplements like Viviscal that promote the growth of thicker, fuller hair from the existing follicles.*

The Best Hair Thickening Shampoo (Ahem!)

We may be biased, but our top pick for a hair thickening shampoo is Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Shampoo. Viviscal Densifying Shampoo contains three key nutrients — biotin (vitamin B7), zinc and hydrolyzed keratin — that will make your hair look thicker, healthier and more voluminous. Viviscal Shampoo is perfect for all hair types and it has a refreshing scent that will last long after you leave the shower.

But what makes Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Shampoo especially effective is its exclusive ingredient called Ana:Tel™. Ana:Tel is a proprietary complex that includes some naturally derived ingredients, such as pea sprouts.

The Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying collection of products, which includes Shampoo, Conditioner and styling Elixir, all combine Ana:Tel with Biotin, Keratin and Zinc, to leave hair looking thicker and fuller.

How You Should Be Using Hair Thickening Shampoo

How you use your shampoo can have almost as much of an effect on your hair as which shampoo you choose. Even though we’ve been doing it our whole lives, many women are still making mistakes when washing their hair.

The most common mistake we make with shampoo is overwashing. When we shampoo too often, we may be washing away the scalp’s natural oils that keep hair strands soft and healthy. Shampoo your hair every few days, when you feel your hair really needs it.

This one is not so much of a mistake as a bonus tip… finish your wash with a cold rinse. If you can handle the brief jolt, the cold water will tighten up your hair cuticle, which can help hair strands resist frizziness and the damaging effects of the environment or styling products. A tight cuticle is also better able to retain moisture.

The Real Key to Hair Growth

A good thickening shampoo can help make your hair look better on the outside. But if you really want to see healthy hair results, eat a good diet or take Viviscal hair growth supplements. The clinically proven blend of vitamins, minerals, and an exclusive marine collagen complex in Viviscal nourishes hair follicles to promote existing hair growth in as little as three months. Use Viviscal Densifying Shampoo now for thicker-looking hair, and take Viviscal supplements for real hair growth results you can see in a few short months. You will be amazed at the results.*
