9 Simple Ways To Change Your Look

You’re beautiful just the way you are, but that doesn’t mean that you have to commit to one look until you die. There’s no shame in switching up your wardrobe, makeup, or hair now and again.

Changing your look doesn’t have to be extreme or expensive. If you’re getting bored with your current duds, here are nine simple ways to switch up your appearance and unlock the new you.

1. Experiment With Colored Contacts

Your eyes are the focal point of your face. Whether or not you’ve been wearing glasses, colored contacts go a long way in helping change your look.

Spring for high-quality contacts like those offered through retailers like these. If you’re feeling indecisive or like to change your look often, you can experiment with different colors until you find the perfect match.

2. Brighten Your Smile

Brightening your smile is one of the easiest ways to make people notice that you’ve changed your appearance. All you need to do is whiten your teeth, which gives your whole face a radiant glow.

Charcoal toothpaste and whitening strips are ways to brighten up your pearly whites at home. Professional teeth whitening is the best bang for your buck if you’ve more money and time to devote to your makeover.

3. Try A New Hairstyle

If you’ve had the same hairstyle for months or years, it might be time to shake things up. Do some research into your face shape and which hairstyles are most complementary.

If a complete cut is off of the table, try styling your hair differently. Changing your hair can draw attention to different parts of your face and create a more flattering image, whether it’s straightening, curling, or braiding.

4. Trim Your Eyebrows

Don’t overlook your eyebrows as most people do. Trim and polish them well, and you’ll be surprised at how different you look. Take a spoolie and brush through your brows before using a pomade on any sparse areas. If you have lighter eyebrows, a touch of darker powder can make them stand out and heighten the expressivity of your face.

5. Try A New Shade Of Lipstick

Are you a one-lipstick-shade kind of lady? If so, you can catch many compliments by experimenting with different shades or even different finishes within your signature color.

For example, if you’re fond of wearing bright red lips, tweak things a bit with a nude lip shade. If you love your signature red too much to part with it, experiment with a matte, gloss, or semi-gloss finish.

6. Get A New Haircut

One thing about haircuts is that they can give you whatever look you want. A new haircut transforms your facial appearance and can help emphasize specific facial features.

Don’t limit yourself to regular haircuts. The great thing about hair is that it grows back, so don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone.

7. Wear Jewelry

Jewelry has an immediate impact on one’s look. Adding jewelry to your favorite outfits is an excellent way to make it feel like you bought an entirely new wardrobe–without the exorbitant price tag.

8. Charm Up Your Eyes

In addition to changing your eye color with contacts, you can also tweak the shape of your eyes using makeup. Adding a dramatic cat-eye or a spot of contouring along your brows can make a world of difference in how your eyes appear to other people.

9. Color Your Hair

If you’re not afraid of a more long-term change to your appearance, you can pull out the bleach and hair dye for a switch-up that’s sure to turn heads. Finding a complementary color to your eye color will create a flattering color palette around your face.

Wrap up

Remember, beauty is not all about a pretty face. There’s much more to ways of improving your appearance, such as proper diet, staying hydrated, oral care, exercise, and sufficient rest. Incorporating these into your lifestyle will ensure you not only look good, but feel good too. The new you will love it.

Maybe you’re a hair and skincare product junkie with cabinets filled to the brim with jars and bottles. Maybe you’re a minimalist that washes your face with body wash. Either way, I have a budget-friendly beauty purchase that can change your hair and skin, and maybe your whole life. OK, dramatic. But I’m seriously passionate about this one!!!

Friends, allow me to introduce you to my bedtime bestie: the satin pillowcase.

It all started when I was 15 and bought satin bedsheets from Urban Outfitters for my birthday as part of a “mature” room refresh. They were RED. It was a big mood for a high school sophomore, haha. Anyway, after sleeping on the sheets for a few weeks, I noticed something—my hair was sleeker and smoother, I was getting less split ends, and my skin was clearer. I didn’t know what was going on, but definitely didn’t think it was my sheets. Fast forward a few years and sheet sets later, and I found myself missing the cooling effects of the satin (I’m a hot sleeper and I find satin makes a huge difference for nighttime temps), so I bought a few pillowcases off of Amazon. The same things started happening as my accidental high school experiment. Happier skin, happier hair. I finally put two and two together and did some research.

Turns out, cotton pillowcases can be sneaky little things—they draw out moisture (meaning skin care products and natural oils) which can dull your skin tone. Not to mention the moisture in your hair can be depleted, which can make it brittle and cause damage and split ends. Cotton pillowcases also collect bacteria and dead skin, making it more likely for acne to pop up since you’re spending so much time with your skin up against them. If you’re already struggling with acne, this can obviously exacerbate the issue.

So with all that being said, there is an alternative—and it’s satin, baby! The beauty benefits of satin are kind of amazing, starting with hair. Satin is a slippery soft surface, so obviously your hair won’t get “caught” on the fibers like it can with cotton—it’ll just slide right over them. If you’re someone that tosses and turns a lot, you may see a big difference in the health of your hair after sleeping on satin for awhile, and you may notice that it just looks less unkempt in the morning as well.

As far as skin goes, satin doesn’t absorb moisture and isn’t as conducive to trapping bacteria, so naturally you might notice a difference in the clarity and the brightness/moisture level of your skin. Some sources say that because satin doesn’t create harsh folds like cotton it can prevent wrinkles, but there’s really no evidence to back this up, so I remain a skeptic on this point.

If you’re ready to try, I have a budget option, middle of the road, and a splurge option for you. Apparently, the mulberry silk is awesome, but I’ve used the very inexpensive brand on Amazon for years and have had great results.

Anyway, let me know if you have any questions below! I love a good budget beauty buy that makes a difference, and this definitely fits the bill. 🙂

A sultry, smokey eye is the gold standard in makeup. It is the ever-elusive goal for many women; though, it seems to evade many of us. Right when we think we’ve achieved the perfect balance of smoke and depth, we make one false move and end up looking like a panda. (And, not in a cute, cuddly way.) So, we asked Global Educator Natalie Soto-Carlisle how to create a simple, 5-minute smokey eye. Not only did she give us some fool-proof steps to follow, she also showed us her expert technique. Check it out!

An Easy, 5-minute Smokey Eye Tutorial

Apply Eggplant from the Naturally Matte Eye Shadow Kit into your crease.

Line your upper lash line with Onyx Mystikol Powdered Eyeliner, then smudge Fudge from the Naturally Matte palette on your upper lash line. You should also use Fudge to smoke out the outer corner of the eye and into the crease.

To balance out the smokiness on your upper lash line, use Basic BlackEye Pencil to line your lower lashes and smudge the line with more Fudge eye shadow.

Then, apply Buttercream from the Naturally Matte palette to the inner corners of your eyes and on your brow bones. This helps make your eyes look brighter! Intensify the color by applying a little more Brown Silk onto your lids and blend. Finish your look with PureLash Lash Extender & Conditioner and Black Ice Longest Lash Lengthening and Thickening Mascara.
