Lavender + Vanilla Body Butter DIY


Lavender + Vanilla Body Butter DIY (click through for tutorial) I’m one of those people that is “lucky” enough (sarcasm alert!) to have really dry skin. I always have to have a mini lotion in my purse or car or I will eventually freak out because I can literally feel the moisture being sucked out of my body into the air at all times. Well, that may be a tad dramatic, but you get the idea. I’ve been really into making my own nontoxic versions of as many beauty and home products as I can lately, so I thought I would give a homemade body butter a try and see how it dealt with my dry skin. As it turns out, it’s probably one of the best things I’ve ever used! Wanna make your own and give it a try too?

Lavender + Vanilla Body Butter DIY (click through for tutorial) Supplies:
-1/4 cup coconut oil
-1/2 cup sweet almond oil
-1/4 cup beeswax
-2 teaspoons vitamin E oil
-30 drops of lavender essential oil
-6 drops of vanilla essential oil
–glass jar

Once the ingredients are melted, pour the liquid into your glass jar container and allow the body butter to cool. As it cools, the mixture will go from a liquid oil to a thick and luxurious butter consistency.

Actually, another great use is to slather a thick layer on your feet, put on some old socks, and let the butter soak in for a few hours (or overnight). DIY Whipped Cocoa Body Butter 


I’m currently the owner of a rapidly expanding baby bump, which means I’m making some additions to my beauty routine. I’ve heard cocoa butter can help improve your skin’s elasticity, which might help prevent stretch marks and figured it couldn’t hurt to give it a try. But I quickly realized cocoa butter is impossible to apply! If you’ve never used it, it’s very hard and not at all buttery like the name suggests. To make it more usable, I decided to mix it up into this whipped body butter and it turned out totally decadent!

It only has one ingredient in addition to the cocoa butter—avocado oil—and it’s super fluffy, chocolatey smelling and probably my favorite beauty DIY of all time. It feels rich but non-greasy when applied, and unlike other lotions I’ve made in the past, it is so simple to whip (yup, pun intended) up!

–cocoa butter (make sure it’s a pure, unrefined one)
–avocado oil (feel free to sub in another mild-smelling oil, like almond. Anything stronger might mask the yummy chocolate scent!)
-airtight glass container
-electric beaters
-a heatproof bowl and pot

Measure out 1/2 cup avocado oil and 1 cup cocoa butter and combine in a bowl.

Simmer a couple inches of water in a pot and place the bowl over (but not touching) the water to melt the cocoa butter. When everything is melted, remove the bowl from heat and place in the refrigerator for about an hour. Make sure none of the condensation on the outside of the bowl gets in! The chilled mixture should be soft; if it firms up too much, let it warm up slightly at room temperature. Mix with the beaters for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.

Scoop the finished butter into a clean container and enjoy! It should last at least a few months if stored in a cool location. My body butter filled a 12 oz. container, tightly packed, with a little leftover.

I found these wood lids made for a variety of Weck jar sizes, which gives the jar a secure seal. I made the label with a scalloped circle punch, fancy wrapping paper and some stick on letters. I think it’s definitely cute enough to give as a gift to anyone who loves smelling like chocolate—pregnant or not! Will it keep my belly stretch mark-free? Time will tell, but in the meantime my skin is feeling and smelling pretty darn good. xo Kayleigh
